The Meaning of One Line I'd Like to Share
At first it sounds like a simple statement, but I felt that this short sentence contains a deep philosophy that we easily overlook.
The Realization That 'This Very Moment' May Be the Only Time
The word "today" carries meaning beyond a simple date.
Heidegger called human existence 'Dasein' and explored the way we perceive the present within time.
The reason we feel this very moment is the most precious is because we are beings who cannot predict the past or the future.
Compared to an uncertain tomorrow, now is the only moment we can truly grasp.
Happiness Is Not an 'Occurrence' but an 'Interpretation'
The expression "the happiest day" isn't something that happens because of some special event.
It may be the result of deciding to feel that way.
Existentialist philosophers like Sartre and Camus said that humans must give meaning to their own lives.
Being able to say that this very moment is "the happiest" is ultimately my interpretation and my choice.
Therefore, this statement isn't merely an emotional expression—it's also a declaration that demonstrates the power of subjective interpretation.
'Humility' Instead of 'Certainty'
The phrase "...it might be."
It contains humility rather than certainty, and an attitude of acceptance rather than control.
Stoic philosophers said that our lives are inevitably shaken by uncontrollable fate.
That's why they emphasized the attitude of 'loving the present moment (Amor fati).'
I may not know if today is truly the happiest day, but I'll acknowledge the possibility and savor this moment.
Because the Future Is Unknown, We Can Only Cherish Today
We cannot survey the entirety of our own lives.
As Thomas Nagel said, humans can only make judgments from the fragmentary perspective of 'now.'
With the statement "today might be the happiest day," I wanted to evoke the awareness that tomorrow isn't guaranteed,
and to remind us of the finitude of death.
Did you have a small but warm moment today?
In this very moment, what meaning are you leaving behind?
I will continue to write many good pieces.
Perhaps today is the happiest day.
